In My Kitchen: Vidalia Chop Wizard

The Vidalia Chop Wizard is one of those "As Seen On TV" gadgets that actually works!  Not only does it work, but it's easy to use, easy to clean, and inexpensive...and it saves me lots of time!

To chop an onion in no time flat...

Simply peel your onion, then cut it in half from root to tip (or is it tip to root?).

Trim off the ends so that it looks like this:

Place the onion cut-side down on the metal grate of the Chop Wizard.

Oops, that was too big.  The onion has to fit inside the square without hanging off the edge.  If your onion is too large, just cut it in quarters, and place a quarter (instead of a half) on the Chop Wizard.

Lower the lid, and press down hard on it.

There will be a loud popping sound (it sounds like it's going to break every time) and then you'll end up with this:

Beautiful, uniformly-sized diced onion!  And after only 4 cuts with your knife instead of 40+.

As you can see in the picture above, the Chop Wizard comes with a grate to create small dices.  It also comes with a larger grate for when you want larger chunks...such as when you want to cut apples for Broccoli Apple Salad.  I cut the apple in eighths and cut out the core, then layed the slices sideways on the Chop Wizard like so:

One loud popping noise, and I ended up with this:

You can also use the Chop Wizard to chop peppers

and celery.

It gets used every time I need to chop any sort of vegetable for supper, and I also use it when I make salsa or freeze peppers.

When you're finished using the Chop Wizard, simply use the handy-dandy cleaning tool (included) to pull out the larger bits of vegetable...

...and then throw all the pieces in the dishwasher.

You can find the Vidalia Chop Wizard at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for around $20.00. Of course, don't forget to use your 20% off coupon!

The Vidalia Chop Wizard has saved me lots of time (and tears!) over the years.  I definitely get a lot of use out of this gadget!

  1. So cool! It's always nice to know if something is worth it before purchasing it (and to know it has multiple uses)
    Thanks!

  2. I also have this and I love it! I received it as a gift from my parents and it did come with the small and large grate.
